After the trials and tribulations of the past year, we’re all longing for a break right now. The way we holiday has definitely changed for now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have an incredible staycation whilst also doing your bit to keep everyone safe. Who doesn’t love a good, long amble in nature? Especially with the sea at your side! In Newquay, there are scores of glorious walks for you to enjoy with enough space for everyone. Why not try taking the foot ferry across the Gannel Estuary? This route will have you glimpsing tonnes of wildlife from birds to butterflies to fish. 

Fancy something more dramatic? Then head along the coast path from Newquay into Watergate Bay – you can even carry on further all the way to Mawgan Porth! 2.Drive-in cinema

3.Treasure Trails

Looking to keep the kids entertained, get them some fresh air, tire them out AND engage their brains? Of course you are! Then look no further than Treasure Trails. This fun-loving company allows you to download a treasure trail complete with maps and clues that will leave the whole family captivated. With over 50 to choose from across Cornwall, you could be taking on a spy mission, solving a mystery or hunting for treasure in no time! 


Gardens begin to show off their flowering blooms as early as February. In fact, in 2020 Spring was declared in Cornwall on the 18th February! Over a month before the astronomical season change on the 20th March. Trenance Gardens in Newquay is the perfect place to stroll through some breathtaking flora. Newquay is the perfect base to enjoy a relaxing golfing holiday, offering easy access to spectacular 18-hole courses as well as some more casual family golfing.

Have you heard of geo-caching? This is potentially the PERFECT activity to keep you entertained, out in nature and socially-distanced! Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices (your smartphone). It’s a blast for kids and adults alike who fancy an adventure!

Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. It’s etiquette to add a little something to the container once you’ve found it before tucking it back into its secret location. Geocaches are located the world over, with plenty to choose from in Cornwall and Newquay! Furthermore, geo-cache locations tend to be off the beaten path, making it the ideal activity for a socially-distanced day out! Happy hunting. 

9.Go for a picnic

When the weather is just right, what could be better than a relaxing picnic? Fresh air, sea views, butterflies and snacks – perfect! 10.Bike rides

Cycling is a great way to stay active, take in the sights and stay socially-distanced from other holiday makers! Prefer a route where you can take in Cornish heritage along the way? The Great Flat Lode trail in historic Camborne through the Redruth mining district is just the ‘tin’.

For the mountain bikers and experienced off-roaders – why not take on the 12km Bodmin Beast trail? This will take you through some wild stretches with plenty of technical tests!
